Many students struggled with the Pablo Picasso worksheet.  Come after school to Department Night on Monday or stay in Homework Club on Tuesday or Thursday and translate exercise B into English (alone, not in a group).  I realize that it is a lot to ask you to stay after school, so instead of being worth only 1 extra credit point, this assignment is worth FIVE EXTRA CREDIT POINTS!

All Spanish 2 students will be taking a quiz on Friday (viernes, el 30 de noviembre).  They need to know how to conjugate reflexive verbs (see p. 330) and be familiar with vocabulary in the left-hand column on p. 343.

Last night I received the news that one of our seniors, Ali Mink, passed away from cancer.  Along with the rest of the Scituate community I am saddened by this news, as Ali was a bright and promising former student of mine.

In light of this news, the first quarter has been extended until 11/14 (miércoles, el 14 de noviembre) school wide and  I have postponed all tests that were scheduled for today.

Students in Period 4 and Period 7 Spanish 2 will take the test on Tuesday of next week (martes, el 13 de noviembre) and students in Period 6 Spanish 2 will take the test tomorrow (viernes, el 9 de noviembre).  I have also communicated with my students to see me if they still do not feel mentally able to take the test on their assigned day and I will make special arrangements for them.

Also, any extra credit that was due today for students in Period 6 and Period 7 Spanish 2 will now also be due tomorrow (viernes, el 9 de noviembre).  Extra credit from students in Spanish 2 Period 4 is due next Tuesday (martes, el 13 de noviembre).
Rest in peace, Ali.  You are so loved and will be sorely missed.

The Last Extra Credit Assignment of the First Quarter

As promised, here is the last extra credit assignment of the quarter.

In class on Wednesday or Thursday, all students will receive a double-sided handout to accompany a reading that we started in class.  Completion of the handout is optional.  Students have until the end of the day on Friday (2:15) to complete the assignment.

If you are in Period 4, our class does not meet on Wednesday.  You may come to see me in between classes for this handout if you want a little extra time to complete it.

Unit 4 test Study Guide

Spanish 2 Unit 4 Test
Format: The Unit 4 test has four parts:

1. Listening.
The first listening involves words needed when giving directions. The second involves words needed when eating out in a restaurant.

Vocabulary.

The first section involves words needed when giving directions. This includes how to give commands. The second section is a general multiple-choice section of words from the entire unit.

Verbs.

This is a section where students need to conjugate a verb given. Verbs in this section include:

• Verbs that stem change from e->ie
• Verbs that stem change from o->ue
• Verbs that stem change from e->i
• The irregular verb decir

Verbs with irregular yo forms (traer, poner, salir)

Readings.

Answer questions in cierto/falso or multiple choice format. The first is about a girl visiting Oaxaca and the second is about eating out.
　
Suggestions for Study

Review old quizzes and homework assignments you had difficulty with. Understand why an answer is incorrect and determine what the correct answer will be.

Review vocabulary at the end of each chapter (Unidad 4 Etapa 1, 2, 3). Remember that you do not need to know how to spell vocabulary words.

Review verb conjugations. Go to studyspanish.com to practice conjugating irregular and stem-changing verbs in present tense.

Come to Department Night to ask questions about things you may not understand.

Study with a friend or friends from class. That way, you can quiz each other and help each other with areas you may have difficulty with.

This is the last week of the quarter.  As a result, I will not be assigning any new homework this week until Friday (viernes, el 9 de noviembre).  All students who owe me work from being absent must make up that work by this Friday (viernes, el 9 de noviembre).  Special exceptions will only be made for students who have an extended, excused absence this week.

All students will be testing this week.  The test schedule is as follows:

Periods 6 and 7 - Thursday, November 8
Period 4 - Friday, November 9

Buenos días.

Students in Spanish 2 Periods 6 and 7 have a short QUIZ tomorrow (viernes, el 2 de noviembre) covering the verb traer and the group of e->i stem-changing verbs (pedir, servir, and repetir).  Students in Spanish 2 Period 4 will take this quiz on Monday of next week (lunes, el 5 de noviembre).

Students in Periods 6 and 7 have NO HOMEWORK this evening for tomorrow (viernes, el 2 de noviembre).  Students in Period 4, however, DO have homework.  They will be responsible for doing Ex. 16 on p. 305, Ex. 2 p. 312, and Ex. 4 on p. 314 in the textbook.

Due to the hurricane, the quiz scheduled in Spanish 2 Period 4 for this past Monday (lunes, el 29 de noviembre) will be held tomorrow (viernes, el 2 de noviembre).

Phew!  Now that our mini-vacation is over, we need to get back to business!  Here is today's posting for Spanish 2.

Students in Period 4 Spanish 2 were supposed to take a quiz this past Monday.  That quiz has been rescheduled for Friday (viernes, el 2 de noviembre).  It covers:

• Expressions with gustar
• Vocabulary from the worksheet you completed for class (most of the words can be found on Page 315 of the text).

Students in Period 6 and 7 have two assignments from the textbook, Exercise 2 on page 312 and Exercise 4 on page 313.

Students in Periods 6 and 7 will have a quiz this Friday (viernes, el 2 de noviembre) covering verbs that stem change from e->i (pedir, servir, repetir) and the verb traer.  Be able to answer questions.  Students in Period 4 are a little behind and will take this quiz next Monday (lunes, el 5 de noviembre).

I was not in school today.  The nasty bug my son had he gave to me, so I stayed home to nurse myself back to health.

Students in period 6 Spanish 2 did not meet today, which means that they have until tomorrow (miércoles, el 24 de octubre) to complete the assignment they were left in class yesterday (lunes, el 22 de octubre).

A great way to prepare for this quiz is to do the verb drills located on the following website:

Click on number 7 and 8, review the conjugations given and try some verb quizzes on those topics.  Then click the button that says "Generate Unique Quiz" and be sure to include "vosotros" forms.  Don't freak out if the website includes verbs you haven't learned before.  Just follow the rules and you should still get the right answer.  Be warned that the program will automatically mark an answer wrong if you forget an accent.  Click on the letter with an accent to include it in your answer.

Students in Period 4 turned in a homework packet today.  They have two worksheets due for Thursday (jueves, el 11 de octubre).  One is a double-sided verb worksheet.  They only need to do page 9 of the worksheet and NOT page 10.  The second worksheet is double-sided and is based on a reading which can be found on pages 264-265 of the text.  Students should read the selection on those pages first and then complete the accompanying worksheet.

Viernes, el 21 de septiembre

Hoy estoy muy, muy cansada, pero estoy contenta porque es viernes.

La tarea para lunes (los Períodos 4 y 6) o martes (el Período 7) es:

Completa la hoja que se llama "Gramática: Ir a + Infinitive."  Sí, tienes que hacer todo.

Hay una prueba en la clase de español martes, el 25 de septiembre (el Período 4) o miércoles (los Períodos 6 y 7).  Ustedes tienen que estudiar:

• Expresiones en las preguntas (cómo, qué, cuál, etc.)
• Los verbos que terminan en -ar, -er, y -ir
• El verbo ir

Extra Credit Homework Assignment: Take the Spain map activity completed in today's class and use the information on it to write out sentences saying where each person or persons is going.  When you are done you will have 9 sentences.  Then, look up one of the cities on the map, read about it, and write down three interesting pieces of information about that place (you can do this part in English.  Be sure to tell me where you find your information).  I will accept this homework up until 2:15 on September 26.

Miércoles, el 19 de septiembre

All students have a double-sided homework due tomorrow in class.

Students will be taking a quiz on question words this Friday (Sept 21) and will be taking a verb quiz on regular conjugations next week either on Tuesday (Period 4) or Wednesday (Period 6 and 7).

Martes, el 18 de septiembre

Students in Period 6 and Period 7  have no homework.

Students in Period 4 have a double-sided worksheet that is due on Thursday, September 20.  Students in Period 6 and 7 will receive the same worksheet tomorrow in class. It is due on Thursday for them as well.

Lunes, el 17 de septiembre

Hoy los estudiantes tienen una prueba (Período 4 y 6) pero unos estudiantes tienen la prueba mañana (Período 7).

Extra Credit Assignment:  Complete Ex. 13 on p. 5 and all the activities on p. 6 on the paper I gave out in class last Thursday for 3 extra participation points.  This is due on Thursday, September 20.

No olviden (Don't forget) que hay una prueba el 17 de septiembre (Período 4 y 6) o el 18 de septiembre (Período 7).

Jueves, el 13 de septiembre

Todos los estudiantes tienen una prueba lunes el 17 de septiembre (Período 4 y 6) o martes el 18 de septiembre (Período 7) en la clase de español sobre los adjetivos, expresiones con gustar, y los verbos tener, ser y estar.

Todos tambien tienen una pequeña tarea.  Es una hoja que se trata (is about) de los verbos ser y estar.  La tarea es para mañana, viernes el 14 de septiembre.

Extra credit assignment:  Many students did not realize that they needed to write out the whole exercise for the 2nd verb activity that we reviewed in class today and did not receive full credit for homework.  Anyone who would like to make up that homework grade may do so by translating the entire second activity into English.  Anyone who received full credit for this homework may also translate the exercise for extra participation points.  I will accept this homework until Tuesday, September 18.

Thursday, September 6 (Jueves, el 6 de septiembre)

Today in class students will receive their first homework assignment.  They will have to write a small paragraph about themselves using the prompts provided.  I plan to collect this homework to grade it.

A reminder that my homework policy states that homework must be completed in its entirety and turned in on time in order to receive full credit, with special provisions made only for student absence.

Also, any students who have not yet purchased either a binder with four dividers OR a notebook and two folders with pockets for their class materials should do so as soon as possible.

First Week Notes

Welcome to Spanish 2 with Señora A!  I hope you are excited (emocionado) to continue your study of Spanish.  We will begin (empezar) with a short review of Spanish 1.  Then we will begin to study (estudiar) new material from Spanish 2.

Be sure to gather your materials needed for class as soon as possible and return the handout you received on the first day of class ASAP signed by both you and a parent.  If you lost your handout, see me as soon as possible for another copy.
